Our Roots
I was raised in love and shaped by community. The PrideXchange exists for every voice silenced and every soul searching for a sanctuary. My story begins in Detroit’s LGBTQIA+ community during the Crack and AIDS epidemic, where I witnessed both the pain of oppression and loss, and the beauty of chosen family and collective creativity. This brand is my lived experience, woven into design and driven by my belief that Pride isn’t just a season. It’s every day. 365 days a year.
Why the "X" matters
Out of my own need to be seen, as well as my desire to see us [BIPOC] centered in the conversations and decisions rather than sidelined by them, the idea for PrideXchange began to take root.
In 2020, during a cultural shift when people were embracing pronouns, reclaiming identities, and stepping into visibility, I realized I wanted more than a rainbow-washed, surface-level “inclusive” brand. I wanted something sacred, something that reflected the fullness of being Black, queer, proud, and human.
Then one night in 2022, the “X” came through me in a dream. And that single letter lit the way. The “X,” universal and unshakable, is the chromosome we ALL carry, a symbol of our shared humanity, fluidity, and foundation.
From that sacred thread, The PrideXchange was born. The “Xchange” is more than wordplay it’s a reclaiming, a transformation, a space to exchange invisibility for pride, silence for power, and exclusion for community.
From the start, the “X” has been more than just a letter. It’s a marker, a stand, a presence that can’t be erased. It carries the weight of our history: sometimes a symbol of resistance, and sometimes a placeholder for what’s been denied. For The PrideXchange, the “X” means all of that and more: it’s our declaration, the unknown that holds infinite possibility, and the reminder that we are here… and we shall NOT be moved.
More Than Apparel
From day one, The PrideXchange has been more than a shop. We’ve stood in the gap as a resource, a platform, a family, and a voice for those who were told they were “too much”: too loud, too queer, too real, too Black, too Brown. We’re here to remind you that you are not only just righ —you are more than enough. And while we design apparel and accessories, our goal is to grow into something so much greater: a movement, a safe place, and a reflection of our community’s power.
Our Mission
Our mission is simple: to hold space for our people—especially Black, Brown, Indigenous, and People of Color in the LGBTQIA+ community 365 days a year. We exist to ensure no one feels erased, silenced, or left out, so every product we create carries that same heartbeat: visibility, resilience, and joy. While each design is both a prayer and a protest, created with love and unapologetic pride, it declares: We see us. We got us. And we’re not going anywhere. And trust, The PrideXchange is just getting started.
